Switch out your Moisturizer
During the summer months our skin feels hot and sweaty in the sun and heat. Because of this we tend to use a more lightweight moisturizer to give our skin what it needs. Now that the temps are cooling and we are switching the AC to heat, our skin is going to need a lot more. Opt in for a more luxe cream this fall full of antioxidants, this will help to reduce some of the inflammation your skin may have suffered from all the summer vacationing as well as protect your skin from TEWL (trans epidermal water loss).
Add in a Hyaluronic Acid Product
Did you know your skin is thirstier in the fall than the summer? This is simply because there is more moisture in the air. Hyaluronic Acid is like a tall class of water for your skin, give it a drink! HA is also the sure fire way to give your skin that glazed doughnut look all your clients are seeking. Make sure that you add in your HA to your skin routine right after you apply your serum and before you moisturize. Also, remember that not all HA products are created equal so make sure that you are doing your research on what you are using and what you are recommending. I prefer to use HA products that are not only adding HA on different layer of my skin but also telling my skin to make more naturally like Skinmedica’s HA 5.
Use Cool Water when Cleansing
As the temps cool we have a tendency to turn up the heat on our water while cleansing. Using hot water on our skin not only creates unwanted inflammation but also dries out our skin even further. I am not suggesting taking cold showers, just turning down the temp and using cool water while cleansing your facial skin. Trust me, you will feel the difference!
Continue to Wear Sunscreen
We tell our clients they need to wear sunscreen 365 days a year, so we better too! This is a friendly reminder that we are being exposed to UV rays all year round and yes they penetrate through glass and the clouds. I prefer sunscreen with zinc, like Essential Defense tinted by Skinmedica, that I apply over my moisturizer and under make up. Using a Tinted screen can act as a good primer or wear on its own without foundation.
